Africa's largest city and the capital of Egypt, Cairo. A unique city, which empowers Egypt with a touch of brilliance. Cairo is a chaotic, noisy, unpredictable and intense city filled with juxtaposes - mud brick houses on one side of the road and towering office blocks on the other; both flashy cars and donkeys line the roads. Not obsessed with becoming westernised, Cairo is a charming city with a great sense of timelessness.

Home to the River Nile and the only surviving of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Great Pyramids as well the mystical Sphinx.

Constructed by the Ancient Egyptians in 2600BC, the Pyramids at Giza are fascinating. Climb up onto the huge stones or take the opportunity to go inside; exploring the pyramids is a truly unforgettable experience. The Egyptian Museum in Midan Tahrir house over 100,000 antiques from Egyptian history, including Tutankhamen's solid gold mask, the Mummy room and a life size statue of Khafre - the museums masterpiece. Downtown Cairo is packed with shops and small businesses however the grand architecture which lines the city amongst the tree lined boulevards along the Nile offer an exquisite ambience.

Shopping
Shopping in Cairo is a unique experience; visit Khan al Khalili, Cairo's only remaining medieval bazaar. A busy market street packed with almost everything you can imagine on sale including delightful brass ornaments and lovely mosaics but prepare to bargain shamelessly! Once you've made your way through the bazaar you'll find yourself in the town square dominated by a beautiful Mosque. Head to Heliopolis where you'll find many Arabic boutiques.

After Dark
There are all kinds of restaurants in Cairo from International brands like the Hard Rock Café and TGI Fridays - both situated on the banks of the Nile. There's also the more traditional Egyptian and Arabic restaurants; try the Felfela restaurant off Midan Tahrir, it serves excellent local cuisine and has a delightful atmosphere.
Cairo has a fabulous nightlife with fantastic belly dancers performing in the bars and clubs across the city; Casinos are also very popular in the city.
