Costa Brava, the rugged coast, is rated alongside the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca as one of the best three Spanish holiday Costas. Starting just under 40 miles northeast of Barcelona and reaching up as far as the French border, the coast is peppered with long stretches of untamed beaches, lapped by crystal clear waters and intertwined with a delightful mix of small coastal towns and popular holiday resorts. Costa Brava is enchantingly beautiful, and its shores are scattered with golden sandy beaches, ideal for water sports enthusiasts, as well as ancient towns and awe-inspiring villages to explore.

One of the most popular resorts here is Lloret de Mar, a town that has grown at a phenomenal rate from a small fishing village to a bustling resort. Just 10km south of Lloret de Mar lies the small, quaint resort of Santa Susana.

Must See
Lloret de Mar has five excellent beaches along four and a half miles of stunning coastline, confirming its status as a holidaymaker's paradise. A selection of watersports, including jet-skiing, wind surfing and water-skiing is available, with plenty of beachside bars and cafés providing refreshment. In addition, Lloret offers a variety of cultural, architectural and natural attractions from a history dating back to 3rd Century BC. The ancient Iberian settlement at Puig de Castellet is definitely worth a visit, and a stroll amongst the monuments and narrow lanes in the centre of the town gives you a feel of its diversity.

The smaller resort of Santa Susana is a lively and the Old Town is well preserved with cobbled streets and traditional Spanish buildings, quietly hidden behind the modern resort that has more recently developed. Santa Susana's main appeal is its relaxed ambience, however it still offers plenty of shopping, and entertainment facilities including sandy beaches with an array of water sports, a popular water park with a range of rides and slides as well as a good selection of nightlife options.

Shopping
Shopping in Lloret de Mar is varied and virtually everything can be found throughout the resort, including a mix of International designer branded clothing and jewellery. In addition, the local buses running to the Costa Brava's other main resorts, such as Girona and Tossa de Mar, and even down to Barcelona, provide plenty of opportunities to take advantage of the area's large shopping centres. The traditional weekly markets in Santa Susanna town are a great place to take a leisurely browse and pick up a bargain.

After Dark
At night vibrant Lloret de Mar comes into its own. The bright lights of the seemingly endless stream of bars, discos and casinos lure you into the entertaining and energetic nightlife that is contained within. If you prefer to start the evening in a more leisurely fashion, there are a plethora of eateries providing everything from fast food joints to a number of International and local restaurants. Santa Susana town centre is home to many bars and entertainment venues and there are numerous restaurants serving all kinds of menus to suit every taste.
