The Costa del Sol on the south coast of Spain is home to an endless array of resorts and stylish, urbanised developments. Running down the coast from the tranquil, whitewashed streets of Nerja is the wild life of Torremolinos, seamlessly merging into a more relaxed Benalmadena, an attractive village set back from the coast. Then onto Fuengirola, home to night time horse-trotting races at the Hipodromo. Then comes Marbella, the jewel. From here to Puerto Banus, is a playground for the rich, with its exclusive image and ultra glam people. And finally onto Estepona, with its wonderful beaches, dazzling new port complex and attractive old town.

Must See
Nerja town centre is situated around the Balcon de Europa, from which the delightful cobbled streets radiate - the best way to explore the area is by taking a horse and cart tour. Torremolinos is an attractive resort, renowned for its sandy beaches, with Bendalamena its lively neighbour, offering a stunning new marina packed with shops, bars and restaurants. Also along the coastline is Fuengirola, famous for its five miles of beautiful sands. The Golden Mile stretches from cosmopolitan Marbella to the luxurious Puerto Banus. Here the seriously rich dine in fabulous restaurants and lesser mortals pay a small fortune to sip a glass of wine and people watch! Finally Estepona, a traditional Spanish fishing village, offers a more peaceful alternative.

Shopping
The Costa del Sol is home to plenty of small shops, which pack the streets. All along the coast you'll find delights such as locally fashioned leather goods, but for serious shopping, head for Puerto Banus with its backdrop of yachts and chic ambience. It's also worth visiting the fabulous street markets in Marbella and Benelmadena.

After Dark
Throughout the Costa del Sol there are many venues to suit anyone's ideal night out, ranging from a classy restaurant offering views of the Mediterranean to karaoke bars, casinos and clubs. Torremolinos and Benalmadena both have thriving nightlife. For swankier surrounds head for Marbella's Golden Mile, illuminated with star-studded restaurants and bars. Eating out in the Costa del Sol is a delight as there's a wide variety of both International and traditional Spanish cuisine in the coast's many restaurants.
